Clean Living

Guess what? I'm starting a new series and I am so very excited to share it with you!

The past couple of month's Stephen and I have been looking into "Clean Eating". Have you heard of it? Basically, its getting back to eating things as natural as they come. No processed foods - getting rid of anything that has GMO's (Genetically Modified Organisms), plenty of fruits and veggies, 100% whole grains and whole wheat, locally raised (grass-fed) meats, limited beverages (basically water, all natural juices and milk), and real natural sweeteners like honey and 100% maple syrup.

Stephen and my good friends started months before we had and talked about the benefits of eating well. I hadn't really thought about it too much (besides already changing to Norwex cleaning products) until I started reading article after article about the junk processed ingredients  in food and personal care products. I started finding (not just off Google searches, hearsay or random sites but legit sites like www.ewg.com) how awful our foods and body products we use daily are for us.

For example,

Did you know that there are over 80,000 chemical in the United States and only a tiny amount (around 200) have been tested for human safety? Seriously?! A lot of our products have been banned in other countries (Canada and Europe) for being toxic to people. Again, SERIOUSLY???? What on earth are we allowing to go in and on our bodies?

Or that your skin absorbs over 64% of what you place on it?
Think about it, if doctors prescribe patches that absorb medication into your skin, what about your lotion, shampoo, soap, deodorant, makeup and everything else - do you have a clue what are in those items? It's ok, most don't know or don't care. I was in the same boat until recently.

Have you ever looked at the back of your food package and read the label of ingredients and not recognized 1 word? I recently picked up a box of Eggo Waffles out of curiosity to see what was in it. What I found, artificial dyes, flavors and a whole lot of other ingredients that are harmful to the body.

So, with that I decided I wanted to start a series about Clean Living. I feel very passionate about going clean and green in your household/family and hope to shed some light on the stuff you are using that can truly harm you. I also want to introduce you to foods and products we have started eating and using in our lives that have already made a major difference in how we feel and what it means to us for future health of us and children.

I would love you to join me weekly on ideas on how you are clean living in your home and family. So come link up starting next week on how you keep your home "clean". :)

Short break

Hi all my dear blog friends. Over the past couple of months, my grandfathers health has been declining. Last week, he suffered a Stroke that caused him to be unresponsive for a couple of days. At that time, hospice was called and he was given hours or days to live.

I took a quick trip down to my parents to see him. His mind is there, but the rest of him isn't functioning. He was able to crack a smile when I told him it was me, he squeezed my hand tight and smiled some when I told him stories of when I was little and remembering times at his and my grandmothers house. Seeing him meant the world to me and I am thankful for those minutes I got to be with him. Each day with him is a miracle and I will always cherish my time with him.

My grandfather is my only living grandparent left and I am blessed to say that I knew 3 of my grandparents. I was blessed 19 years with my MawMaw, 20 years with my Oma, and am currently at 26 years with my Poppy. My moms dad died of cancer when she was 7 years old.

I feel extremely lucky to have had these ladies and man in my life.

This week, I honor my grandfather and thank The Lord everyday for him. I pray his suffering is short, and that when it is time for him to depart this world, The Lord will call him to himself.

I am going to take the next couple of days off from blogging to spend the time I normally devote to it in prayer.

I pray that his life's testimony will bless others and that he exuded Christ's love.

I love you all and am praying for you as we'll.

Coffee & Conversation

Coffee & Conversation

I love coffee. I love friends. Combine the two and bam! Something incredible happens. Last week, Kalyn and Lauren introduced a new linkup where you can come and find out whats going on in your blogger friends life.

Lauren and I go way back (since our college days in 2005) and recently got linked back up through blogging. Now, we get to meet for actual coffee and share life together.

I also recently got to go on a blate (blogger + date = blate) where a bunch of us ladies from Alabama (and our MS friend) got to eat and drink coffee together - and I got to meet Kalyn fro the first time too!

So come along on this journey. Make some new great friendships - isn't that why a lot of us started blogging anyway, to share life together. :)

Each week, they will have a new topic and you can link up. So grab your cup of joe and lets chat!

  TOPIC:
What are you most thankful for so far this year?
I can't even begin to answer that in a short post but I will try ;) I am most thankful for my relationship with my husband. We are about to hit our 1 year anniversary (March 10) and I feel like this past year has sped by me. Like all girls, I desired to be a wife and mom and dreamt of the day I would meet my future hubby and begin our lives together. I dated some not so great guys and got very impatient for "the one" to come along.

I waited

 and
waited.

And then I realized that no matter what I did, I couldn't continue trying to make something happen.

I had to wait and give it over to the Lord.

In His timing (and with help from a roomate), I met Stephen and the rest is history.

I am thankful for the way he loves me. How he makes me laugh. How he comforts me when I cry and am sick. How he holds my hand when we walk through the house together. How he is always excited to see me and comes to welcome me home. How he brings me my water at night (even though I never drink it but just like having it).
I am thankful for our playfulness. For our date nights. For every moment I have with him - good or not so good.

I am thankful for my husband.
